Many of us spend hours a day looking down at a cellphone or hunched over a laptop. This lifestyle can contribute to many aches and pains, one of which is neck pain. Additionally, sleeping in an improper position or without adequate spinal support can also contribute to neck pain.
Here are 5 things you can try to ease your neck pain.
- Check The Ergonomics of Your Workspace.
Your monitor should be in your direct sightline so you don’t have to look up or down. Your knees should be level with your hips. Additionally, your wrists should be straight and supported. A few little adjustments can make a world of difference over time.
2. Manager Your Stress Level
Many people hold stress in their neck and shoulders without even realizing it. Consider taking a few moments each day to do some deep breathing exercises, neck stretches, and/or shoulder shrugs.
3. Consider Your Sleep Position
If you sleep on your side try to ensure that your head and neck is in alignment with the rest of your body. Back sleepers can use a small pillow at the base of the neck as well as under the knees to relax the muscles in the neck. Try to avoid sleeping on your stomach, as the majority of experts agree it’s the worst position for triggering neck pain.
4. Check Your Pillow Profile Height
A properly suited pillow is very important. One of the simplest things to look at is the profile height. A short or petite person would likely be better suited for a lower profile pillow to avoid neck strain, while a taller in stature person may want a high profile. We carry a variety of pillows to suit all needs.
5. Choose Your Pillow Technology To Suit You
A latex pillow offers a solid support to the sleeper while memory foam contours to the sleeper. Down or alternative down pillows are easily compressed and may not be the best choice if you suffer with neck pain.
